Combination3D Square from M.POWER

M-Power's C3D combination square.

The clue’s in the name – It indicates a perfect scribe line in 3D, both width and thickness simultaneously.

The C3D is a precision hybrid, a genuine alternative that covers the functions of: combination or try-square, saddle square, deep range marking gauge, bevel gauge and rule — all in one tool.

The C3D is individually built by hand in England and set to the tolerance of 1/100th of 1 degree over the entire 9”length of the blade.

And, unlike regular squares that are factory set for the life of the tool, the C3D’s construction allows the square to be re-set. Or, if serious damage is done, the C3D can be fully stripped down and reassembled.

It has a Sheffield steel main blade with reset feature and a durable, cast aluminum powder-coated stock.

The C3D will be available June 1, 2010.

Topcon AT-B series auto levels

Topcon AT-B series auot levels.Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) announces the release of the new AT-B series auto levels.

"Since the introduction of the first auto level AT model in 1961, Topcon has been a world leader of auto level technology for 50 years," said LeRoy Sorenson, TPS product marketing manager. "Since 1990, the previous AT-G series has been the bestseller models for more than two decades. The new AT-B series sets a new standard for auto levels used in surveying, engineering and construction applications."

The AT-B series can focus on objects at 20cm (7.9in.) in front of the telescope, while previous models provided 50cm or 1m (1.6ft. or 3.3ft.) minimum focusing distance. "This feature dramatically facilitates the works in confined spaces," said Sorenson.

The compensator of AT-B series incorporates four suspension wires made of extremely high-tensile metal that features minimal thermal expansion coefficient, "providing unmatched durability and accuracy even in the harshest environmental conditions," said Sorenson. "Its finely tuned magnetic damping system quickly levels and stabilizes the line of sight despite the fine vibrations present when working near heavy equipment or busy roadways."

With the IPx6 rating, the instrument is protected against powerful water jets from all directions, "meaning the AT-B series withstands a sudden shower or torrential rainfall." Sorenson said, "The advanced protection design not only prevents water penetration, but also deters clouding or condensation inside the telescope.

"With the AT-B series, we have streamlined the product lineup to make users' choices as simple as possible. The three selected models will satisfy all levels of requirements from surveying to engineering, from use in open field to underground," said Sorenson.

The three models available are:

  • AT-B2: 32x magnification (40x optional), 0.7mm accuracy (0.5mm with an optional micrometer)
  • AT-B3: 28x, 1.5mm accuracy

Bosch GLL3-80 360-Degree Line Laser

The Bosch GLL3-80 360-degree line laser offers full-time layout and squaring lines in three planes.New tool utilizes patented Bosch Cone Mirror technology to project in 360 degrees without moving parts!

Building on the success of the revolutionary GLL2-80 360-degree line laser earlier this year, Bosch Measuring Tools introduces the GLL3-80 3-Plane Hybrid Line Laser. The new laser is nearly identical to the GLL2-80, except the GLL3-80 utilizes an additional laser diode to deliver full 360-degree coverage on two perpendicular vertical planes and one horizontal plane.

By providing five cross points and self-leveling lines in 360 degrees, the GLL3-80 makes layout, leveling and squaring a breeze for cabinet installers, finish carpenters, remodelers, electricians and others.  Unlike traditional cross line lasers, the GLL3-80 allows the operator to position the unit over one reference mark and provide two 900 layout lines from one setup point. Because the GLL3-80 projects three axis planes simultaneously, and the tool can be quickly switched between triple axis-plane, vertical-only and horizontal-only modes, the user can complete an entire room from a single setup point.

Like the GLL2-80, the GLL3-80 utilizes Bosch patented Cone Mirror Technology, rather than rotating diodes, to project bright laser “chalk lines” in 360 degrees. By reducing the number of moving parts, Bosch produced a laser layout tool that is more compact, lighter, easier to calibrate, and simpler to use than a traditional rotary laser.

The GLL3-80 can be mounted in multiple ways for added versatility. The base of the unit is designed to enable either freestanding operation or magnetic attachment to metal tracking. The unit can also be mounted to a standard tripod; the base accommodates both ¼-20” and 5/8-11” tripod mounting. By incorporating the included WM1 Positioning Device with a micro-fine height adjustment, users can dial in their preferences even further.

For bright light conditions and/or long distance (up to 265 feet) applications, the GLL3-80 can be used in pulse laser receiver mode in conjunction with the optional LR2 laser receiver. Single-button operation and a compact design make setup, operation and storage simple, regardless of application. Bosch’s Smart Pendulum Leveling System quickly levels the unit for use and alerts the user with both blinking lines and an audible alarm if an out-of-level situation occurs. Once leveled, the GLL3-80 is accurate to within 1/4” over its 100-foot range (in normal mode). A secure transport lock protects the pendulum when the unit is switched off.

As with all Bosch products for pro users, durability is important. In addition to the secure transport lock to protect the pendulum, Bosch has built the GLL3-80 to meet rigorous IP54 standards for water and dust protection.  The easy-to-grip rubber housing further protects the GLL3-80 from jobsite drops and abuse. This ensures precise and reliable service over the lifespan of the tool.

The GLL3-80 comes complete with a hard carrying case, the WM1 micro-adjustable positioning bracket, an instruction manual and four AA batteries. The BP350 telescoping pole system for laser tools from Bosch Accessories is recommended for use with the GLL3-80.

Bostitch clamping levels

The Bostitch clamping level features torsion springs and aggressive teeth for a secure grip and hands-free use on dimensional lumberHands-free operation for contractors.

Bostitch has announce the world's first line of clamping levels – models 43-723 and 43-727– which offer the distinct advantage of a hands-free operation while positioning wood to a level or plumb setting.

The world's-first feature that sets this product apart is an integrated clamp design that grabs the work with aggressive teeth for hands free use. The clamps are driven by inter-wound torsion springs for an unprecedented lockdown onto the work-piece. The new clamping level can accommodate 2X dimensional lumber (1-1/2") as well as 4X dimensional lumber (3-1/2") for a variety of residential and commercial construction applications.

With a box beam body constructed from aluminum, these units incorporate a bridged center vial for a continuous marking surface. An additional benefit of this feature is an open line-of-sight to the center vial for reliable measurement every time. They also feature a heavy-duty profile for added stability. For example, traditional levels feature a profile between 1-1/4" to 1-1/8"; however, the new Bostitch clamping levels tout a thick body design of 1-1/2" to prevent tip-over and help stabilize measurements.

Engineers designed the block vials to ensure an accurate read is always achieved, regardless of the angle from which you view the bubble. This is why Bostitch machines its leveling lines (or graduations) on the inside of the tubes (or barrels) of the vials. This special machining process prevents parallax distortion that occurs when viewing an object from a challenging angle.

The clamping levels offer solid acrylic block vials for impact-resistance and long-term accuracy. Unlike many competitive products, Bostitch uses an epoxy to connect the vials to a structural column located on the bottom of the block so that the level continues to perform reliably over time, despite the rigors of day-in/day-out use. The new levels also feature shock absorbent end caps for added protection to the high-wear areas of the level. As part of its new hand tool launch, Bostitch is offering a 100 year limited warranty on its complete line of hands tools (pneumatic tools, compressors, and accessories fall under the previous warranty).

Available now at home centers, construction supply stores, and on the web, the new line of clamping levels are expected to sell for the following approximate retails prices: the 24" clamping level (model 43-723) is expected to sell for approximately $59.99, and the 48" lighted level (model 43-747) is expected to sell for approximately $79.99.

Bosch GLR500 and GLR825 laser range finders

The Bosch GLR825 laser range finder has an 825-foot range with accuracy to within 1 millimeter. Bosch Measuring Tools, pioneers in the development of some of the world’s most compact and accurate laser range finding tools, will soon introduce two more additions to its award-winning lineup. Building on Bosch’s proven short- and medium-range platforms, the company is entering the long-range laser measuring category with two innovative laser distance measuring tools – the GLR500 and the GLR825.

Capable of quickly and accurately measuring in 11 different modes over extended distances (825’ for the GLR825, 500’ for the GLR500), Bosch’s new range finding tools are perfect for builders, architects, construction supervisors, building engineers, finish and trim carpenters, project estimators, inspectors, plumbers, electricians, appraisers and even police departments investigating accident and crime scenes.

And, even over extended distances, both tools are accurate to within 1 millimeter (0.04inch). That means users of all types can measure with confidence in any application.

As with previous models, such as the DLR165 and the GLR225, Bosch’s new laser distance measurers offer users the flexibility of measuring from one of four distinct points – from the front or back of the unit, from the integrated tripod mount or from the multi-functional extension pin, perfect for measurements from corners or inside channels.

New to the GLR500 and the GLR825 is the capability of delivering 11 distinct types of measurements, versus seven modes on the GLR225 – length, area, volume, minimum/maximum, continuous, indirect length , double indirect, combined indirect, stake out, trapezoid, multi-surface area and timed measurement.

To help users keep track of all of those measurements, both tools have enough built-in memory to store up to 30 individual measurements and results.

With a maximum range of 825 feet, Bosch’s GLR825 features a 1.6x magnification viewfinder for precision laser sighting in long-range or outdoor applications, even in brightly lit environments.

The intelligently designed keypad puts the most common functions right at the user’s fingertips, while the large, illuminated display lets users easily monitor and keep track of all measurements, modes and calculations.

Like all Bosch measuring products, the GLR500 and GLR825 are built to last. A glass lens and ceramic optics carrier are utilized for maximum durability. And both units, including their battery compartments, are IP54 protected against dust and water. Bosch’s GLR500 and GLR825 also feature rubber-padded surfaces to ensure a secure grip and to protect the units from damage due to drops.

Bosch’s GLR500 and GLR825 come complete with a soft belt-loop case, a hand strap and four AAA batteries. Optional accessories include Laser View-Enhancing Glasses (DLA001) and a Laser View-Enhancing Target (DLA002).

The GLR500 and GLR825 will be available this July through authorized Bosch distributors nationwide. To find out more or to find a local dealer, users may visit www.boschtools.com or call 877-BOSCH-99.

Stanley LED Levels

Stanley LED Lighted Levels

Stanley announces the world’s first line of lighted box beam levels – models: 43-518, 43-527, and 43-552.

During its new product introduction at the Westin New York Hotel, Stanley product manager Ian Kilgour said, “Reading the vials on a level is extremely difficult if you are in a dark area of a jobsite that doesn’t have adequate lighting.”

Often times, even the slightest misread can lead to visible – and costly – mistakes that must be re-worked. Such applications include finish & trim, bathroom tile, hanging mirrors, etc.

The vials and utile surface of the levels light up and even illuminate the work area to provide superior visibility in low-light situations thanks to L.E.D. technology (patent-pending).

Users can activate and/or deactivate the lights by simply pressing on/off switch, which is recessed to prevent inadvertent activation and battery drain.

The new lighted levels are available in three lengths – 16" (model 43-518, currently available), 24" (model 43-527, coming in September), and 48" (model 43-552, also coming in Septmber) – for a variety of applications. All three units are powered by three AA batteries each for up to 60 hours of light.

The patented Max Edge Bridge provides a continuous marking surface as well as an open line-of-sight to the center vial for reliable measurement every time. The engineers at Stanley® designed the block vials to ensure an accurate read is always achieved, regardless of the angle from which you view the bubble.

This is why Stanley machines its leveling lines (or graduations) on the inside of the tubes (or barrels) of the vials. This special machining process prevents parallax, otherwise known as the distortion that occurs when viewing an object from a challenging angle.

With its body constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum, the lighted levels offer solid acrylic block vials for impact-resistance and long-term accuracy. Unlike many competitive products, Stanley uses an epoxy to connect the vials to a structural column located on the bottom of the block so that the level continues to perform reliably over time, despite the rigors of day-in/day-out use.

The new levels also feature shock absorbent end caps for added protection to the high-wear areas of the level. Stanley uses high-strength rare earth magnets to provide twice the holding power of traditional magnets to ensure the level stays firmly affixed to metal surfaces such as pipes, beams, grates, and bars.

Currently available at home centers, construction supply stores, and on the web, the new line of lighted levels are expected to sell for the following approximate retails prices: the 16" lighted level (model 43-518) is expected to sell for approximately $19.99; the 24" lighted level (model 43-527) is expected to sell for approximately $29.99, and the 48" lighted level (model 43-552) is expected to sell for approximately $39.99.

Spectra Precision Grade Lasers Feature Wireless Remote Control

Maximum Versatility in Leveling, Grading and Vertical Alignment with Plumb for General Construction Applications.

Spectra Precision GL512 Laser with remote control. Trimble introduces the new Spectra Precision GL512 and GL522 Grade Lasers. The versatile lasers are rugged, cost-effective and can perform three types of jobs for the construction contractors—level, grade, and vertical alignment with plumb.

The Spectra Precision GL512 (single-grade) and GL522 (dual-grade) lasers offer fast, easy horizontal level, grade, and vertical plumb setup with no manual leveling. The GL512 and GL522 Grade Lasers send a continuous, self-leveled 360-degree laser reference over an entire work area. They feature a wide grade range of -10 to +15 percent, so they can be used for a variety of slope applications. These extremely rugged lasers can withstand a drop of up to 1 m (3 ft) directly onto concrete.

Both lasers feature a two-way full-function remote control with built-in backlit grade display. This allows the contractor to do everything with the remote control they can do with the laser keypad, up to 100 m (330 ft) away from the laser—even from the cab of the machine. The ability to make grade changes from anywhere on the job greatly reduces setup time and speeds operation, especially when multiple job grade breaks are needed.

The GL512 and GL522 laser packages include the new Spectra Precision Laser HL750 Laserometer that can be used at an operating diameter of up to 800 m (2,600 ft). Wireless communication between the HL750 Laserometer and the transmitters provide automatic Grade Matching which allows measurement of unknown grade values between two points. PlaneLok is also available in both the horizontal and vertical planes. PlaneLok automatically locks the beam on the receiver and keeps it on grade. This reduces typical environmental factors that may induce an error. Additionally, the HL750 Laserometer can communicate with another HL750 for long-range wireless remote display and monitoring.

Additionally, the GL512 and GL522 self-plumb in the vertical position to accommodate an even wider range of applications, such as anchor bolt installation, plus form, tilt up, and curtain wall plumbing. Both units also incorporate automatic temperature and grade compensation for high accuracy in any weather or geographical location.

On both models, the laser beam can be turned off electronically on up to three selectable sides. This capability eliminates interference with other crews on the job site by keeping the beam from straying into other work areas.

The Spectra Precision GL512 Single Grade Laser and GL522 Dual Grade Laser are available now through Trimble's Construction and Construction Tools dealer networks.

Calculators for Pipefitters, Plumbers

New handheld calculators are specifically designed for pipefitting and plumbing trades.

Calculated Industries' Pipe Trades Pro calculator.Calculated Industries, maker of the award-winning Construction Master calculators, has developed two new handheld calculators specifically designed for the pipefitting and plumbing trades.

Designed with extensive input from industry professionals and educators, The Pipe Trades Pro and PlumbingCalc Pro are lightweight, easy to carry, work with feet-inch fractions and include built-in reference tables for various pipe types, materials and sizes of pipes. Both provide a simple way to deal with conversions and calculations, including flow rates, velocity, force, pressure, volumes, slopes, percent grades, drops (run, rise and pitch), offsets and fill weights, and include a built-in right angle math and pressure drop for any pipe size, type or distance.

The Pipe Trades Pro even solves rolling offsets, parallel pipe cutbacks, and has functions for advanced math, including trigonometry and exponential functions.

“Having the answer to these complex calculations within easy reach, in a fast and accurate form is much easier than trying to remember the formulas or going through the trouble of looking them up in a reference book or on a chart,” says Mark Paulsen, vice president of marketing at Calculated Industries. “These tools will save time and money when fitting pipe, where tight working areas and the potential for misalignment are challenges for pipe pros.”

The Pipe Trades Pro ($89.95 MSRP) version is designed for pipefitters, sprinklerfitters, steamfitters, welders and plumbers who install pipe.

The PlumbingCalc Pro ($69.95 MSRP) is designed for those who design, install and maintain plumbing systems in commercial, industrial, municipal, and larger residential projects.

Both calculators are rugged — and come with a dust, shock and moisture resistant Armadillo Gear cover.
