In this free podcast produced by the Tradesmen Insights e-newsletter, Georgia Foley, Executive Director of STAFDA shares her thoughts on the industry and the biggest challenges facing members in 2010. Topics covered include healthcare, credit, current and pending legislation, educational opportunities and the key elements of successful distributor/manufacturer relationships.
In the podcast, Foley notes the irony of the fact that the tools many distributors used in 2008 and 2009 just to stay in business — cutting inventories, employee headcounts and other crucial metrics — now hinder their appearance of credit worthiness to banks.
Looming tax changes also present serious threats to small business and STAFDA is very active in efforts to level the playing field for small businesses in the United States, particularly distributors and manufacturers. STAFDA is a member of the Small Business Legislative Council and the National Association of Manufacturers and is working with these organizations to improve the legislative climate for small businesses by promoting sensible policies and to nullify or reverse pending legislation that would hobble U.S. businesses both at home and abroad.
Foley also speaks of STAFDA's webinar series, which include coming events with economist Alan Beaulieu in June, sales trainer Tom Reilly in August, and the GSA (U.S. General Services Administration) on how to procure government contracts, set for September.
